Oral Cancer Screening

As a comprehensive dental practitioner, Dr. Goharkhay offers routine oral cancer. As your dentist, Dr. Goharkhay is the only medical professional in a position to evaluate and detect abnormalities. Early detection is important. There will be 41,000 Americans diagnosed with oral cancer this year and 12,500 deaths. The death rate from oral cancer is especially high due to late discovery of the disease. Prognosis is more positive with early detection. A patient who does not seek regular continuous dental care from a dental professional is putting their health at risk by delaying a diagnosis in the early stage of oral cancer. We are dedicated to providing this potentially lifesaving screening for you. Here are some oral cancer statistics:

  • Oral cancer kills one person per hour, 24 hours per day
  • Death rate is high due to too-late diagnoses
  • Oral cancer can be treated with 90% success if detected early
  • Oral cancer is three times more common than cervical cancer

A nightguard is a simple solution that protects your teeth and jaw from the harmful results of nighttime teeth-grinding. Dr. Goharkhay provides a custom molded plastic mouthguard to comfortably fit over your upper teeth, creating a barrier between your upper and lower teeth. The cushion between the teeth absorbs the force of grinding. A nightguard reduces clenching, grinding and TMJ problems by relaxing the muscles in the jaw so you can rest comfortably again!

Sleep Apnea/Snoring

If you or a loved one snores, you are likely aware that snoring often accompanies fitful sleep. Severe snoring may also be a sign of a more serious problem like obstructive sleep apnea. Sleep apnea occurs when an individual stops breathing for an extended period of time during sleep. Snoring happens when the soft palate relaxes to the point of cutting off the airway. A snoring mouthpiece and similar appliances are designed to comfortably hold the airway open during sleep. There are a wide variety of stop snoring appliances available. Dr. Goharkhay will help you select the right for your needs.

One-Year-Old Exams

Do you know when your child’s dental care should begin? The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that the appearance of the first baby tooth is a good sign. For most babies, this occurs when they are between 6 months and 1 year of age. A simpler way to remember for your child is: first dental visit by first birthday. It’s important to remember that baby teeth serve as placeholders for adult teeth. If baby teeth are damaged, permanent teeth can grow out of position, resulting in crowding and/or crooked teeth and a bad bite.

Prevent cavities early on. For our young patients, we offer sealants as soon as the permanent molars come in. You can always have sSealants placed over the deep groves in teeth to stop bacteria from getting in.

Gum Disease/Periodontal Therapy

Dr. Goharkhay and her team provide you with deep cleanings in the presence of gum disease with deep pockets, followed by regular maintenance cleanings.
